Photo restoration

Damaged, faded and torn photographs restored by hand, with their natural look kept. Online, from anywhere.

About this service

A damaged photograph is often the only picture of a person or a day. Cracks run through faces, stains take over skies, and colour drains out of the print. I repair that damage by hand, working from the photograph itself, so the result still looks like the people and the time it recorded.

What I repair

  • Cracks, creases, folds and tears
  • Stains, water damage and mould spots
  • Fading, yellowing and lost contrast
  • Scratches, dust and ink marks
  • Missing corners and torn-away areas
  • Soft or blurred faces, as far as the print allows

How it works

  1. Send me a scan or a phone photo of the damaged print. I tell you what is realistic.
  2. I quote the work and agree a turnaround with you.
  3. If I need the original, you can drop it off in Smoky Lake or post it with Canada Post.
  4. I restore the photograph one area at a time, then send you the result for review.
  5. You receive full-resolution files by secure download, ready to print or share.

By hand, not by an app

Automatic restoration tools guess. They often invent a face or smooth skin until it looks like plastic. I rebuild missing detail from what the print still holds, and I stop when the photograph looks like itself again. The grain, the clothing and the expression stay.

Colour

A black and white photograph can be brought into colour on request. I discuss it with you first, because colour is a choice, not a repair.

Questions

Good things to ask

What kind of damage can you fix?

Cracks, creases, tears, stains, fading, scratches, mould spots, missing corners and blur. What can and cannot be restored explains the limits honestly.

My photo is badly damaged. Can it be saved?

Often, yes. Send me a scan or a phone photo and I tell you what is realistic before you commit to anything.

Do I need to send the original?

You can start with a scan or a good phone photo. For the best result I scan the original myself, because a careful scan keeps detail that a quick copy loses.

Will the restored photo look brand new?

It will look clean and clear, and still look like a photograph from its time. I repair damage and stop there, so the photo keeps its natural look.

Can you add colour to a black and white photo?

Yes, on request. Colour is a separate decision from repair, so I ask what you want and discuss it before I start.
