Slides were the home movies of still photography: holidays, weddings and family evenings with a projector. Most projectors are gone, and the dyes in many slides have turned magenta or brown. Scanning saves the picture while the colour can still be recovered.
What I scan
- Mounted 35 mm slides in plastic, cardboard or glass mounts
- Slides stored in trays, carousels and boxes
- Slides with visible dust, fungus or colour shifts
How it works
- Tell me how many slides you have and how they are stored.
- I quote the job and agree a resolution with you.
- Bring the slides to Smoky Lake, arrange a pick-up, or post them with Canada Post. Keep them in their trays or boxes so they stay in order.
- I scan each slide, clean dust where I can and correct colour that has drifted. The files arrive by secure download and the slides return to you in the order you sent them.
Faded colour
The cyan dye often fades first, which leaves a red or magenta cast. A good scan records what is left, and careful correction brings back natural skin tones and skies. If a slide has deeper damage, the scan can go on to photo restoration.
What to expect
You receive full-resolution files, named in sequence. If you want a few favourites printed, I can prepare the files at the right size.
